When death enters the life of a child, the effects can be devastating and last a lifetime.
Losing a loved one is hard enough for adults, but have you ever considered how it looks through the eyes of a child? Most children have neither the experience nor emotional skills to navigate the hazards of loss and grief. Nor should they.
One of the ways Covenant Hospice helps children who have experienced the loss of a loved one is through Camp Monarch, a series of one-day bereavement camps that take place in each of our regions. They offer bereaved children the opportunity to explore their emotions in a safe environment and gain strength from other children in similar situations through a variety of therapeutic activities including confidence-building exercises, music and art therapy, crafts and one-on-one sharing.
Additional children's bereavement activities are also offered throughout our service area. Although very similiar to Camp Monarch, these bereavement activities are half-day events.
Consider Supporting Camp Monarch
In the last five years, Covenant Hospice has hosted 20 Camp Monarchs for more than 800 children. The cost to sponsor a child for one Camp Monarch session is approximately $100. Unfortunately, these camps are not reimbursed by Medicare or insurance, and we must rely on the generosity of people like you to help offset the significant expense of providing this care to every child who needs it.
