On behalf of the Board of Directors, staff and volunteer of Covenant Hospice, I would like to personally thank you for visiting our website to learn more about Covenant Hospice and the services we provide. We feel so fortunate to be able to provide care to almost 1,300 patients throughout 35 counties each and every day. I hope that our website has provided you helpful information about end-of-life issues, and I hope that when the times comes, that you will entrust your loved one to our care. Studer Group, a national healthcare leadership and management development group, and Covenant Hospice announce an exciting new partnership, which will include collaboration for multiple services for health care organizations. The new services will include training programs for leaders involved with providing end-of-life care (including palliative, home health, long term care and hospice care), specialized consultation services, and an Institute concentrating on end-of-life issues. As a not-for-profit provider of hospice services, Covenant Hospice:

Affirms life and neither hastens or postpones death;

Without discrimination, serves individuals with any life-limiting illnesses or condition who reside within the authorized service area;

Understands the patient, family, life partner and network of friends are a “unit of care” and are all active participants in the development of a comprehensive care plan;

Chris Comeaux, Vice President of the Studer/Covenant Alliance began his work experience with one of the Big 4 CPA consulting firms, KPMG Peat Marwick in Houston, Texas. After KPMG, Comeaux went to work with Cooper Industries in their Executive Development Program and was later named CFO for Covenant Hospice. In this position he saw the organization grow from a $7 million dollar budget serving 180 patients per day to a $36 million dollar budget serving 600 patients per day. After 5 years with Covenant Hospice, Comeaux left to become the President/CEO of Four Seasons Hospice and Palliative Care in western North Carolina. During his time there he oversaw phenomenal growth in a 4 year time frame going from 30 hospice patients per day to over 400 hospice and palliative care patients per day. Comeaux was the 2005 recipient of the Peter Keese Leadership award given by the Carolinas Center for Hospice and End of Life Care. Through his breadth of experience at a very young age,...

Sponsor an 11th Hour Comfort Basket A message from Sue Straughn, WEAR-TV Anchor and Covenant Hospice Board Member: Many of us are very fortunate to have our family and friends around us as we journey through life. Sadly, this is not the case for everyone. Covenant’s 11th Hour Program was created to ensure that no one has to die alone. Our volunteers are specially trained to be with patients during their final days to provide emotional support and a caring presence. Volunteers are given Comfort Baskets to take with them as they visit with 11th hour patients. These baskets contain items including a book of spiritual readings, a portable CD player with specially selected CDs of music composed to provide restful sleep, lotion so volunteers can massage patients’ hands, candles to provide aromatherapy, a journal and other items which will help the volunteer make patients as comfortable as possible. Each basket costs $100.00 including replenishing supplies for an entire year....

The Partners In Care™ Toolkit© is a free educational and reference resource created by Covenant Hospice for our partnering facilities and Covenant's own staff. The Toolkit includes, among other things: protocols and procedures for Covenant's staff as well as information for facility staff on how hospice care works in a facility; mind-maps and flowcharts of those processes; guides to federal and state rules and regulations pertaining to the collaborative relationship; and details of the contracted agreement between Covenant Hospice and the facility.

In 2002, the Partners In Care™ Toolkit© won the Florida Hospice and Palliative Care's State "Award of Excellence". The Toolkit was then nominated and won the 2003 Hospice and Palliative Nurses Association's National "Innovation in End-of-Life Nursing Care Award".

Dothan, Alabama - July 2006 The National Council of Hospice and Palliative Professionals (NCHPP), the professional membership division of the National Hospice and Palliative Care Organization presented its annual Volunteers Are the Foundation of Hospice Awards on July 29 at a special awards luncheon in Denver, Colorado. Woodrow Farrington of Covenant Hospice, received the Volunteers Are the Foundation of Hospice award in the category of Organizational Support. Woodrow “Woody” Farrington began volunteering with Covenant Hospice in February 2003. Woody is an accountant, college professor, father, grandfather and outstanding volunteer whose absolute dedication, hard work and compassion have profoundly impacted the lives of hospice patients and families.
