It is said that you really can’t fully understand something until you have personally experience it. This certainly seems to be the case with Pat Dingess, Director of Branch Operations for Covenant Hospice, and for thousand of patients and families who receive hospice care each year. A personal experience with Covenant Hospice is what made Dingess choose to work for the organization. “It was that personal experience with Covenant Hospice that I knew what a positive impact our services have on the people in our community. I love knowing that I play a small part in that,” said Dingess.
As Director of Branch Operations, her “small part” includes making sure that the Covenant Hospice nurses, hospice aids, social workers and chaplains have the support, supplies and tools that they need to do their jobs. This ranges from band-aids and blood pressure cuffs to education on difficult pain control issues and hiring the best-qualified staff available. “By doing this, I know that our staff can focus all their energy on giving the best possible care without distractions and create more positive personal experiences,” said Dingess.
Once a patient and their family experience the team approach to care that Covenant Hospice provides, many times they comment that they only wish they had called Covenant Hospice sooner. It’s the personal experience that drives many family members to become a Covenant Hospice Volunteer, or to make a donation to the not-for-profit organization.
It is also personal experiences that have made Dingess want to serve outside of her organization. She currently serves as President of the Crestview Chamber of Commerce, is a member of the Woman’s Advisory Board of North Okaloosa Medical Center and stays involved with Rotary.
Personal experiences are still important to Dingess today. She is inspired by her parents, who have been married almost 60 years, and taught her the meaning and importance of love. “They taught me the importance of helping others whenever possible, and the Golden Rule, of do unto others as you would have them do unto you,” said Dingess. We all have personal experiences, and Pat Dingess and her staff strive to make it a positive one for Covenant Hospice patients and their families.
