If you were to ask Melanie Lomax, director of branch operations in Daphne, what makes Covenant Hospice different from the other hospice organizations in town, she will tell you it’s the people she works with. “The people at Covenant Hospice are committed to excellence in end-of-life care, and the patient and family needs. The staff often goes above and beyond a patient’s expectations in order to satisfy their needs,” said Lomax.
Lomax herself has served as director of the Covenant Hospice branch office since the office opened in Daphne back in 2002. She has worked for various hospice organizations in the area. However, she feels that it’s the promise that Covenant keeps to its terminally ill patients and families that sets Covenant Hospice apart. “Caring for patients and their families, regardless of the type of insurance they have insures that all patients receive the same type of care when they need it the most,” said Lomax. “This is very different from my past hospice employment experiences.”
It is also co-workers that inspire Lomax to provide the best care available. “Several people come to mind when you ask me who inspires me,” says Lomax. “However, Scotti Dixon taught me everything I know about hospice care, how to cope and survive during the good and bad times. She taught me that doing the right thing no matter how difficult and sometimes painful is the right thing to do.”
These days Lomax is determined to make a difference in the lives of Covenant Hospice patients and their families. “I want to build a great hospice and an extraordinary team that continues to carry on the mission of Covenant Hospice to our patients and their families, to our staff and to our community,” said Lomax.
