Your donation today may help a homeless Navy veteran like John Gilbert (pictured), a 54-year-old fisherman who spent most of his life working on boats. He was released from a local hospital to a homeless shelter where Covenant's nurse found him lying in pain on a pallet on the floor because there was no bed for him. Covenant Hospice admitted John to the
Joyce Goldenberg Inpatient Residence, where he received care for 42 days until his death in October 2009.
Covenant Hospice social workers located John's sister out-of-state and arranged for a last visit, gave him a pin and a certificate thanking him for his service in the Vietnam War, and took this picture, given as a memento to his sister. John died surrounded by love and peace, in a comforting home-like environment, with volunteers and staff keeping vigil at his bedside.
Covenant Hospice recently expanded and redecorated the Joyce Goldenberg Inpatient Residence with community donations. We purchased new hospital beds through grants and gifts. Our Chaplain and Bereavement Services and our Children's Program are totally unfunded without the generosity of supporters like you. In 2008, Covenant Hospice provided care valued at $1.9 million to those who were uninsured or underinsured, including un-reimbursed care to many veterans like John. We have budgeted for over $3 million for indigent care in 2010.
Please help us provide compassionate care, a dignified passing, and grief support to all those who need us.
